This course will begin with a focus on repair estimates, metal fabrication, welding processes, metal preparation, finishing techniques, cleaning methods, paint evaluation, and paint mixing. Students will explore a wide range of tools, machines, materials, and processes used to repair damaged vehicles in order to meet industry specifications. Instruction will focus on personal and environmental safety while working in an automotive environment. There will also be a strong emphasis on developing the skills to ensure accuracy with repairs and begin the process for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification.

Students will begin to investigate specific industry pathways, including powder coating, and during the second semester prepare for internships within the local industry. Complete job evaluation, planning, task organization, and estimation will be accomplished. Students will work closely with industry representatives from local repair facilities. There will be field trips and guest speakers as part of this advanced-level course. Students will also have the opportunity to sit for the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification exam (student version).

This course introduces the students to heavy-duty diesel-powered vehicles and equipment. Students develop diagnostic, technical, and academic skills through classroom instruction and hands-on maintenance applications in the above areas. Through theory and real-world experiences, students master the concepts and the ability to identify and perform necessary repair tasks utilizing the latest techniques and applications on Class 4 through Class 8 trucks and tractors. In addition, this course will address personal and environmental safety practices in accordance with local, state, and federal safety and environmental regulations. The students will study Heavy-Duty Brake Systems, Steering and Suspension, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Part I, and Preventative Maintenance Inspection. The course prepares the student for the ASE exams.=

provides the student with the knowledge and skills necessary to pass the ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Exams for Diesel Engines, Drivetrains and to perform Preventative Maintenance and immediately enter a career in this area and/or attend post-secondary education and/or training. Students develop diagnostic, technical, and academic skills through classroom instruction and hands-on maintenance applications in the above areas. The students will study Heavy-Duty Electrical/Electronic Systems Part II, Drive Trains, Diesel Engines, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, Hydraulics, and Preventative Maintenance Inspection Part II.
