AFJROTC I is the beginning level course. It is open to all students in all grade levels. This is a voluntary program with a focused mission on "developing citizens of character." The objectives of AFJROTC are to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship; promote community service; instill responsibility, character and self-discipline; and provide instruction in air and space fundamentals. The Wellness portion of AFJROTC is an exercise program focused on individual improvements with the goals of achieving a national standard as calculated according to age and gender. The objective is to motivate cadets to commit to an active, healthy lifestyle, during their time in AFJROTC and beyond into their adult lives.
Cadets are issued Air Force uniforms and physical fitness clothing that must be worn on designated school days, where students participate in drill and ceremony activities. Students must adhere to grooming standards while in uniform.
